He will succeed Kan Trakulhoon who has taken the helm since January 2006. His appointment will take effect on January 1, 2016.
Kan has been hailed as the person who successfully leads SCG into a new era, with a pivotal goal of developing SCG into a leading innovative organisation. Kan joined SCG in 1977 and had held several key positions before rising to the top. While being president of Cementhai Ceramics Co Ltd, Kan played a crucial role in recovering the ailing ceramic business from the Asian economic crisis in 1997 and transforming the company into a long-term profit-making unit of SCG through strategic re-branding of commodity goods into value added fashionable products.
Like Kan, Roongrote joined SCG in 1985, right after his graduation.
Roongrote, now president of SCG Paper, has held several key positions and he has been expected to be Kan's successor. His professional experience expands from the fields of production and sales to management and planning, in both local and foreign markets. Among his previous positions were president of TileCera Inc, USA, and director of the Corporate Planning Office where he was responsible for SCG investment planning.
He is considered the driving force behind the innovation-oriented approach to establish SCG as an innovative organisation. His key strategies are to foster forward-thinking teamwork, support progressive changes and encourage creative confidence among the staff to add values and stimulate growth of SCG.
Roongrote holds a bachelor's degree in Engineering from Chulalongkorn University, a master's degree in the same field from University of Texas at Arlington, and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
