The data shows the number of Chinese visitors was put at 111,898 in the first quarter of 2014, an increase of 50 per cent compared to the same period last year.
In 2013, over 245,000 Chinese tourists visited Laos, which was an increase of 23 per cent over 2012, thanks to improved facilities and better connectivity between Laos and China.
The tremendous growth in visitors coincides with growing Chinese outbound tourism numbers which in total are likely to exceed 100 million in 2014, according to a leading independent aviation market analyst, Centre for Aviation.
There were 97 million Chinese tourists travelling abroad in 2013 – nearly double 2009’s 49 million.
