Lawyer demands longer jail term for Eleven reporter

Plaintiff Aye Aye Phyo appeared at the Loikaw District Court in Kayah State on Friday and filed an appeal to impose a harsher sentence on jailed EMG reporter Ma Khine.

“On 10 January, the plaintiff Aye Aye Phyo and her lawyer appeared at the court. When the district court’s judge asked her whether was there any action done concerning the original order, she said that she had submitted an appeal to increase the sentence imposed on Ma Khine. 
“The decision whether to accept or reject her submission will be considered on 21 January. The district court asked both sides to appear on 20 January,” her lawyer Zaw Myint Tun said on Friday.
On October 27 last year, Eleven Media’s Kayah state reporter Ma Khine went to lawyer Aye Aye Phyo’s house to investigate a story about pirated movies. Aye Aye Phyo accused her of trespassing, using abusive language and defamation. 
Loikaw District court deputy judge Mya Min Han sentenced her to three months imprisonment.
Last Tuesday, more the 100 journalist demonstrated over Ma Khine’s imprisonment.
