A source in the Information and Communications Technology Ministry said Panthep Chamrasromran, who reportedly has close ties with former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, will be the TOT board chairman.
The other directors are Pol General Suchart Wonganantachai, Prasit Siripaporn, Vasukree Klapairee, Wallop Ploytabtim, Captain Prasong Praneetpolkrang, Bencha Louisecharoen, and TOT president Anont Tubtiang.
The CAT chairman will be Dusadee Sinjermsiri, former director-general of the Public Relations Department under the Thaksin administration, while other directors are Siripol Yodmuangcharoen, Taweesin Hiranwatanasiri, Kraisorn Barameeauchai, Commander Sompong Pokasem, and CAT chief executive officer Jirayuth Rungsrithong.
The Finance Ministry is expected to approve these appointments next week before their names are forwarded to the Cabinet for its endorsement. The Finance Ministry owns 100 per cent of both state telecom agencies.
The two boards are expected to give top priority to urging CAT and TOT to restore damaged communications systems in flooded areas.
TOT board is expected to speed up establishment of its nationwide third-generation wireless broadband network and further develop the plan to lease 3G network capacity to telecom firms to provide retail service.
