Report due on 'flood relief graft' The committee investigating alleged corruption in the procurement of flood-relief kits will release its final report tomorrow, Yanyong Phuangrach, permanent secretary of the Commerce Ministry and chairman of the panel

 

 The investigation will finalise whether officials were involved in purchasing goods at inflated prices.

Politicians and media raised the issue of possible corruption in the acquisition of flood-relief bags by the Prime Minister’s Office and the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department.

The goods in the bags were allegedly cheaper than the prices reported by the Flood Relief Operations Centre (FROC).

The investigation is focusing on the spending of Bt239 million to buy 765,422 bags in seven lots since October 8. The prices were Bt300, Bt500 and Bt800 per bag depending on the contents.

 

SCB resumes full

operations at HQ

Siam Commercial Bank on Monday resumed normal operations at its head office on Ratchadaphisek Road after floods forced it to exercise its disaster back-up plan on November 7.

"The well-developed and tested multi-centred operations have allowed the bank to continue providing full services without any disruption," president Kannikar Chalitaporn said yesterday.

"With the situation at Ratchayothin Intersection and nearby areas gradually improving and returning to normal, the bank has resumed operations at the Ratchayothin head office as of November 21, as planned. The relocation went smoothly and the bank can provide services continuously," she said.

Builders’ group to

aid renovations

The Home Builders Association has joined with Siam Commercial Bank, Bank of Ayudhya and Kasikornbank to help flood victims renovate their homes by offering special loans.The association also will provide services to renovate residences for flood victims.
