Esso (Thailand) has claimed success in its Clean Fuels Project, having invested Bt10 billion and employed 2,000 people for the scheme over the past four years.

The project is part of Esso’s global effort to reduce sulphur levels in petrol and diesel. This is also in accordance with the Thai government’s promotion of automotive fuels that help improve air quality in the Kingdom.

The Bt10-billion project is based at Esso’s Sri Racha refinery in Chon Buri province.
Mongkolnimit Auacherdkul, director and manager for public and government affairs of Esso (Thailand), said the new fuels would have sulphur levels of only 0.05 per cent for both petrol and diesel. Apart from improving production efficiency at the refinery, advanced technologies would be added to increase fuel efficiency and product purity.

He said Esso had also initiated projects and activities that gave importance to the country’s economy, especially improvements in community living standards and health.
Esso (Thailand) is a listed subsidiary of ExxonMobil Corporation, a leading global energy firm.
The company’s shareholding structure consists of ExxonMobil at 66 per cent, Vayupak Fund at 17.3 per cent, and public at 26.7 per cent. The Sri Racha refinery has production capacity of 177,000 barrels per day. Besides petrol and diesel, it produces liquefied petroleum gas, jet fuel, kerosene, bunker oil and asphalt.
Esso has no plan to sell its refinery business to Thai Oil as reportedly previously, Mongkolnimit said.
