A full range of Thai fruits will be available from the more familiar lychee and mango to the less common rambutan and mangosteen, all presented in a colourful and eye-catching ‘Taste of Thailand’ display unit.
This promotion is in its fifth year and is just one way in which Tesco supports the growth of exports from Thailand. Last year saw an increase in the value of Thai exports to Tesco’s international businesses, reaching Bt12.5 billion. Tesco estimates that this figure could increase by Bt1 billion by the end of this year. Exports of Thai fruit alone are expected to double this year.
“Thailand is an incredible source of fresh and high quality produce and we are proud to be partnering with the Thai Department of International Trade Promotion to profile Thailand as the ‘Kitchen of the World’. Leveraging our skill and scale, Tesco is proud to be able to help Thai producers send their products to our network of stores in 13 markets across Asia, Central Europe and the UK," said
John Christie, CEO of Tesco Lotus.
Deputy Commerce Minister Poom Sarapol noted that Tesco’s work has greatly contributed to the increase in Thai agricultural exports to the UK and beyond.
