Stars in pursuit of posh purses

The long wait is over for fans of luxurious French brand Longchamp, which now has a store at Siam Paragon – so no more fake bags, okay?
The opening on May 29 drew a crowd of celebrities including Araya “Chompoo” Hargate, Virithipa “Woonsen” Pakdeeprasong Yamnam, Ajira “Paeng” Laemwilai and Montonn “Jay” Jira. One hoped

there would be an all-star scrum for the goodies, but everyone behaved.
This was despite the congestion in the 73-square-metre boutique and the announcement of special discounts for launch day. Celebrities and lesser mortals alike elbowed politely forward to get deals on the new Sur Measure custom-made accessories for their La Piage or Le Cabas totes and the Le Pliage Cuir, a leather version of the canvas Le Pliage, which was appearing in Thailand for the first time.
The tally for sales at the opening – which only lasted a few hours – topped Bt800,000. You see, this is why they invite the socialites and other wealthy folks to these events.

Life support
Nation International Edutainment Plc (Nine), our movie-and-books propaganda wing, has a catchy slogan: “Steve Jobs young mai tai”, which means “Steve Jobs ain’t dead”.
We know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking, “Huh?”
“I really feel he’s still alive,” Nine president Sivaporn Chomsuwan explained when he unveiled the phrase at the big book expo last month, where the firm was flogging copies of its Thai translation of Jobs biography by Walter Isaacson.
Sivaporn acquired the rights for the Thai version almost five months before Jobs died last October, fast-tracked the translation while the Apple founder’s popularity was still booming, and had the book out by December.
The first run of 50,000 copies sold out in a flash, and it was still the top seller at the Nation Books booths at the book fair. It’s one of the few translated books in Thailand that have sold more than 100,000 copies.
So, no, Steve Jobs isn’t dead. Sivaporn is almost devout about it. “Before I go to bed every night I pay respect to Jobs,” he jokes.
