.
The centre also said that more than 2.9 million football fans will watch Europe’s top football tournament, which runs from June 8 until July 1 in Poland and Ukraine. The centre conducted a survey of 518 people in Bangkok from June 1 to 13.
The survey also estimated that during this one-month period, the tournament could boost local expenditure by about Bt7 billion. About 40 per cent, or Bt2.8 billion, would be for food and beverages, 25 per cent or Bt1.8 billion in sales of television devices, 12.9 per cent or Bt900 million in telecommunication service, 7.1 per cent or Bt500 million in TV antennas while the remainder would be for other businesses, including souvenirs, sports and footwear.
Of the estimated Bt2.8-billion expenditure on food and beverages, the respondents said they preferred drinking both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages with a combined 44.1 per cent of total spending, followed by snacks 22 per cent, finished and ready-to-cook food 26.9 per cent; fast food 4.9 per cent and others 2.2 per cent.
The survey also found that of total respondents, 71.6 per cent said they follow this tournament, an increase from 65 per cent for Euro 2008.
