Sekisui-SCG opens Bt2 bn facility
New plant to meet overseas, local demand for components; Smart Series launched
Sekisui-SCG Industry, which manufactures modular housing, has opened the Bt2-billion SCG HEIM plant at Hemaraj Industrial Estate in Saraburi to serve growth in the country’s home-building business and property developers’ plans.
The plant, which has been built on a 2-rai plot, will also serve the company’s plan to export its modular products to South Korea and Japan in the future, president Toshiya Nomura said yesterday.
The company is a joint venture between Japan’s Sesikui and Thai conglomerate SCG (Siam Cement Group).
The new facility has a production capacity of 1,000 modular homes per year and will start operation this month.
The plant utilises advanced technology in the production process.
Wachirachai Koonamwattana, managing director of SCG-Sekisui Sales, said the company had expanded its construction and sales of components for modular housing to target the middle-range home market, in which housing costs about Bt5 million, due to strong demand for houses using the innovative modular system.
The company had been focusing on the market for higher-priced houses costing up to Bt10 million over the past two years, selling its products for more than 130 houses and generating about Bt1 billion in sales.
The company recently introduced the Smart Series of modular housing, with starting prices of Bt5.9 million or about Bt20,000 per square metre. This follows the two previous models: Ultimate Series and Design Series.
The Smart Series is aimed at increasing the customer base of those wishing to use the modular system in the construction of their houses and who are able to afford a home costing around Bt5 million, said Wachirachai.
The first pilot house is the “Dawin Model”, which has a modern style with utilisable space of about 234 square metres, and two to three bedrooms.
The new model will target the market in greater Bangkok, as well as resort homes in locations such as Pak Chong and Khao Yai.
The company hopes to achieve construction of 240 houses under the Dawin Model this year and next, and up to 1,000 houses in total by 2017, he added.
