As it transforms into a public service for national security, the Royal Thai Army Radio and Television Station (TV5) aims to be a hub of the national broadcasting network and services for local content producers after the opening of its new Bt1.6-billion

Lt-General Chart-udom Tithasiri, president of TV5, said the Army started to construct this new 20-storey building in the same as the TV5 and Thai Global Network (TGN) stations three years ago. However, the opening of the project, planned for late last year, was delayed by the massive flood in 2011.
The new tower will house offices, recreation facilities, nine studios, conference rooms and an auditorium. Its parking garage can also accommodate about 600 cars.
The tower is equipped with digital broadcasting technology.
With these new facilities, TV5 will be able to expand its capability to serve in-house production, particularly live shows, and transmit them in digital format through various channels within two years.
Besides being a hub for in-house TV production, TV5 will be able to provide production services and supporting technology for outside clients that want to produce their own TV shows.
This is all part of the business development for TV5, which is to be transformed into one of Thailand’s public broadcasting services for national security within four or five years.
Among its business activities, TV5 is now one of four national providers of digital terrestrial TV networks. Its clients are include Channel 7 HD, One HD, GMM Channel, Workpoint Creative TV, Nation TV, Now26, New TV, True4U, Mono29, TNN24, Amarin TV, Bright TV and PPTV HD. The Army also uses its own digital TV network to transmit TV5.
In addition to this, the operator of Channel 5 has earmarked Bt3 billion for its two-year plan to roll out its digital terrestrial TV network.
