Deputy director-general Suwipan Thisyamon said the department would carry out more than 400 export-promotion projects next year, some continued from this year and others new.
The plan is to ensure that exports grow by at least 4 per cent.
One strategy is to stress a good image for Thai products in overseas markets, particularly in Asean.
Exports in this region should increase as the Asean Economic Community takes effect. If Thai products have a good image, Asean countries will demand more of them. Therefore many activities will be launched in Asean next year, including Thailand Weeks, trade exhibitions and trade missions. The department will also cooperate with importers in targeted markets to set up in-store promotions and marketing activities.
The department has eight trade offices in Asean nations. They will prepare in-depth information about each market for Thai enterprises interested in penetrating those countries.
Agricultural products and foods will be highlighted in next year’s export-promotion campaigns. The department will organise many trade fairs and exhibitions as showcases for Thai foods.
Suwipan said the department would also encourage enterprises to create new channels into new markets. Trade activities through websites, mobile applications, and social networks will be promoted next year.
The department provides its own mobile application, “DITP Connect”, to link Thai producers with foreign buyers.
The Thai trade officials in 62 countries around the world will also prepare information and conduct many activities to help more enterprises penetrate each foreign market.
