The company will be proactive in expanding its business in Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos to cash in on regional integration as the Asean Economic Community becomes fully effective this year.
Christopher Kim, president for the Asia-Pacific region at Unicity International, said the company was in the process of finalising its plan set to set up a factory in Thailand, as identified in its 2015-16 investment plan.
Unicity is a leader in the nutritional-supplement industry and has a presence in more than 30 countries around the globe. The company says its business in Southeast Asia is continuing to flourish, especially in Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos and countries that are opening up to a free market like Myanmar.
Kim said the factory in Thailand would produce 15-20 of the company’s products, mainly in the category of powder-based nutritional supplements. The products will be for the domestic market and for export to other markets in Asean.
“We have seen Thailand as a huge market with tremendous growth. The country is quite ready in terms of infrastructure systems and state-of-the-art technology for the production of such nutritional-supplement products. Thailand also has a strong supply of raw materials and is centrally located in the heart of Asean.
“The Kingdom will be an important base for Unicity in expanding its business into neighbouring markets in the region, including Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, Indonesia, the Philippines and Singapore,” he said.
Kim said Thailand was one of the three most important markets for Unicity, besides the United States and South Korea.
“For this year’s strategy, we will still focus on introducing new innovative products into the market and providing our individual distributors a chance of enjoying financial freedom.”
