THE Association of Thai ICT Industry will guide the IT industry and digital economy in four directions during its two-year term.

The 4G, the digital economy and economic growth of the country will drive the IT industry’s growth by double digits this year.
Thanachart Numnonda, president of the association, said yesterday that the four directions are – public policies, international affairs, human resource quality development, and market and business development.
For public policies, the association will submit digital platforms and a digital model to the public sector such as universities and government agencies to promote the digital economy as a whole.
For international affairs, the association will draw on its foreign knowledge to support its members to penetrate the international market through activities such as joint exhibitions and software competitions.
For human resource development, the association will help improve the quality of education. It has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Overseas Human Resources and Industry Development Association to establish an IT skill measurement system for local IT human resources and to improve current skills to advanced levels.
This would enhance the competitiveness of the local IT industry and the country as a whole. It will also push information technology skills to international standards.
For marketing and business development, it will support the digital economy by promoting digital usage by the general public and government offices.
It will create a new digital economy experience for SMEs, government officials and tech start-ups. It will provide knowledge to start-ups by launching an accelerated programme to support their access to angel funding from venture capital investors.
“We are confident that all the missions will help the Thai IT industry become able to stand at the forefront of the Asean Economic Community.
“It will also help guide the Thai government to make Thailand a digital nation.”
The association will also push the public sector to become digitised by providing digital platforms, such as workflow and email platforms, to state universities to adopt their operations to digital processes.
The IT industry in the second half of this year will be driven by three areas – the government’s digital economy policy, the 4G auction and the economy of the country.
