Aberdeen plans equity fund launch in 2016
ABERDEEN Asset Management (Thailand) plans to launch one or two equity funds in the coming year while its asset under management (AUM) as of the end of the account year in September amounts to Bt48.1 billion, representing an expansion of 32 per cent compa
Aberdeen (Thailand)’s AUM was at Bt46.6 billion at the beginning of the 2015 fiscal year while its revenue has increased to Bt561 million from Bt478 million, or by 17 per cent, compared with the start of the account year.
“Regarding the investment plan for the coming year, as we are an asset management company, we have to think about the timing and the plan to add one or two more funds,” said Korawut Leenabanchong, Aberdeen’s chief executive officer. “They will be equity funds, which focus on shares within the Aberdeen’s group as that is the strength of the firm.”
Aberdeen (Thailand)’s plan for the next 12 months is to expand its AUM at a rate that is no less than the industry’s growth while revenue is expected to continuously do well from the structure of the company AUM of which 86 per cent is mutual funds, 13 per cent is provident funds and 1 per cent is personal funds, Korawut said.
“Aberdeen Group currently has assets under management of around US$480 billion and 25 offices worldwide.
The growth is gradual, as we do not concentrate on expanding the AUM so there is no need to frequently introduce funds since we focus more on managing a constant return for investors,” he added.
The asset firm will not concentrate on term funds like most asset management companies, while 80 per cent of Aberdeen’s assets are equity and 20 per cent are bonds.
“There was an inflow of around Bt5.88 net billion in the last account year, which reflects the trust that investors have for the company and they are beginning to understand more about our style of mid to long-term investments,” he said.
“And we believe that there is always an opportunity in every market and there is even more opportunity when there is fluctuation in the market since it opens up more channels to invest if you can see that the investment will still be good in the mid to long run.”
