Wichai Pornpratang, vice president for IT and mobile communications at Thai Samsung Electronics, said yesterday that among the banks and card issuers already confirming their support for the service were Krungthai Card Co, Citibank, Kasikornbank, Bank of Ayudhya, Siam Commercial Bank and Bangkok Bank.
Samsung offers seven compatible mobile devices at this stage – the Galaxy A5, A7, A9, S7, S7 Edge, S6 Edge Plus and Galaxy Note 5.
The service is already available in South Korea, the United States, China, Spain, Singapore, Australia, Puerto Rico and Brazil, generating more than 100 million transactions in one year.
More than 440 banking and merchant partners have joined the system, and the figure continues to grow.
Samsung Pay lets customers use their compatible Samsung devices as e-wallets and credit cards to pay for goods and services by tapping on credit-card-reading terminals.
Any place accepting credit cards can accept Samsung Pay.
Users can easily choose participating payment cards in their smartphone and use their fingerprint to prove their identity.
Users can add up to 10 credit cards to their Samsung Pay account, Wichai said at the start of the 25th “Thailand Mobile Expo”.
The fair, organised by M Vision, runs until Sunday at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre in Bangkok.
Samsung does not gain any revenue from the service. The application is aimed at adding value to Samsung devices, he said.
