According to a memorandum of understanding signed by the Commission and the BMTA, maximum liability coverage for damage to life, body or health should be increased from Bt750,000 to Bt1 million per passenger.
Suthipol Thaweechaikarn, secretary-general of the Commission, said maximum coverage for property damage would be Bt1 million per incident as well.
He said the BMTA was the first organisation to be able to utilise the benefits from the MoU to develop a unique insurance policy as part of the transit authority’s risk management.
The Commission will invite insurance companies that will underwrite the motor insurance for the BMTA to discuss premiums and the claims process in order to ensure compensation payments are made quickly, accurately and fairly.
The insurance firms are requested to provide documents explaining the management process that will be employed after a bus accident. The Commission will ask insurance companies to study the service routes of public buses and determine which ones have frequent accidents in order to offer services quickly when they are informed about an incident.
