Suphakit Vuntanadit, deputy chief commercial officer, said yesterday that the company expected TrueOnline’s broadband Internet business to grow at least at the same pace of the overall market this year.
True has yet to report its fourth-quarter performance for last year, but as of the third quarter, there were 6.9 million household broadband Internet subscribers, up 12 per cent year on year, and True had about 2.7 million or 38 per cent of them.
The company could still maintain its leadership this year by continuing to offer packages with high data connection speeds bundled with appealing content and services from the group.
The group’s business ranges from cellular services and pay TV to broadband Internet.
This year a package offering a minimum download speed of 30 megabits per second will become the market norm, Suphakit said, up from 15Mbps last |year.
The company has set aside a budget of Bt33 billion for the 2014-16 period to ensure that its network covers 10 million households nationwide, of which 8.6 million were already covered as of the third quarter last year, he said.
The major players are True, TOT and Triple T Broadband. The new contender is Advanced Info Service, which made a splash with its AIS Fibre fibre-optics broadband service about a year ago.
