CPF said it was the first Thai company and the only non-EU country to receive the world-renowned production criteria.
The accreditation confirms the quality and safety of CPF's chicken products for EU consumers, the company said.
Virachai Ratanabanchuen, chief operating officer for CPF’s chicken business, said at the ceremony to launch the first shipment of poultry that the company was seriously committed to making its chicken production meet international standards and win the confidence of customers worldwide.
The EU has imported chicken products from CPF for more than three decades, Virachai said.
The QS Standard signifies quality and safety in the food-for-consumption production process. It is the highest standard for food safety for German consumers and is increasingly recognised by consumers in other EU countries.
The QS Standard is a very restricted club and underlines transparency experienced by consumers in a production process with a traceable quality.
Virachai said CPF enjoyed increasing orders from Germany and the EU.
On this occasion, 23,000 kilograms of fresh poultry was exported to Germany. CPF plans to export 70,000 tons of chicken and chicken products totalling Bt10 billion to the EU throughout 2017.
“The QS Standard sends a message to Thai consumers that they will enjoy CPF's chicken produced by a process considered as safe and with as much quality as the ones enjoyed by Germans and EU citizens,” Virachai said. “What’s more important is by receiving the QS Standard, CPF is able to get more orders from German and EU customers."
The QS Standard is equipped with a strict monitoring system. Use of antibiotics within a farm is restricted for safety purposes on the basis of animal welfare.
Products must be salmonella-free.
In addition, there is a system to examine the quality of live chickens when they are delivered to a factory.
Virachai said CPF's chicken-production process corresponded to what the QS Standard required in terms of safety and quality based on the principle of animal welfare and animal health.
Since 2006, CPF has collaborated with the Department of Livestock Development to develop compartment-style avian farming to prevent bird flu.
The QS Standard will connect the company’s entire supply chain from feed to farm and food, and from importers to retailers and wholesalers in Germany and other destinations.
In addition, there are requirements in the QS Standard that have been designed to be unique so every food production unit achieves the highest food safety for consumers. These requirements are regularly checked, reported and reviewed to be able to identify the origin of food at every production chain.
