SIAM PIWAT CO yesterday announced the opening of Korea-based Aland’s first store in Thailand.

Occupying 730 square metres of retail space on the second floor of the Siam Center shopping complex in Bangkok, the store is the first Aland franchise outside South Korea. It opened on Friday and carries more than 10,000 “lifestyle” and fashion products, including male, female and unisex apparel, accessories and beauty goods.
After acquiring investment capital of more than Bt50 million, the Aland store is expected to achieve return on investment in less than three years. A total of Bt100 million in sales are expected by the end of this year.
Chairoj Sridecharinkul, managing director for International Fashion Brand Retail, a new business unit set up by Siam Piwat about a year ago, said the company had signed a five-year contract for the opening of Aland stores in |Thailand.
“We plan to open about four Aland franchise stores locally over the next five years. In addition to the first Aland store at Siam Center, the second Aland outlet will be opened at IconSiam, a retail complex on a bank of the Chao Phraya River, which will commence by next year. Meanwhile, the other two will be free-standing stores to be opened outside the group’s shopping complexes,” he said.
Siam Piwat is the owner and operator of major shopping centres in prime Bangkok locations, including Siam Paragon, Siam Center and Siam Discovery. The company is also a major partner and owner of IconSiam. Chairoj said Thai consumers were fashion-addicted and were always searching for product information before making any real purchases. Digital-based technology had made them for having strong product information, whether equivalent or higher than retail vendors.
“With rising popularity of Korean culture and fashion in Thailand, we are confident that sales of Aland [goods] will grow strongly to more than Bt100 million targeted for this year, and grow by another 15 per cent annually for the following years.”
He said Aland and Siam Piwat shared the same business philosophy, to provide strong support and opportunities to young local designers.
Aland operates 16 of its own stores in South Korea and three in Hong Kong. The Aland store in Thailand is the first franchised outlet outside South Korea.
“Aland should help support retail business growth for the company, re-emphasising Siam Piwat as a leader in retail business and innovator in retailing that brings new fashions into the country,” Chairoj said.
