Truck-driving simulation centre opens
Loxley Simulation Technology (LoxSim) on Wednesday opened Thailand’s first European Standard 6DOF (“Degree of Freedom”) full cabin heavy vehicle driving simulation centre, with the mission of creating an alternative training option that will pave the way for better road safety.
The LoxSim Driving Simulation Centre will be used for heavy vehicle training and intensive research and development activities for road safety.
LoxSim said in a statement that it had implemented technology from AutoSim, a Norwegian driving simulation technology leader. LoxSim is AutoSim's exclusive reseller in Thailand and several other Asean countries.
LoxSim is held by Loxley Orbit Company Limited, which is a 100 per cent owned subsidiary of Loxley Plc.
The driving simulation centre is located on 130 square metres of Loxley’s Bangkaen office. Loxsim had invested more than Bt30 million in the simulator and related infrastructure.
The heavy-vehicle driving simulator uses the same standards and training practice as professional full-scale flight simulators for pilot training. The simulator within the centre can be use for heavy vehicles of all types such as tank trucks, rigid trucks and semi-trailers.
The simulator system also allows for simulated engine, transmission, gear, load type and weight depending on customer’s training requirements. Driving conditions are also adjustable based on the weather and local road conditions, allowing drivers to train in dangerous situations.
The company said the core customers of the driving simulation centre would be public and private companies that transport dangerous and sensitive goods.
LoxSim chief executive officer Wansit Chatikavanij said the Shell Company of Thailand would be the company's first customer and also its partner in the development of driving simulation.
