The new hybrid box enables viewers to switch between terrestrial-digital and satellite channels.
Suphachai Chearavanont, chief executive officer of True Corp, the parent company of TrueVisions, said the hybrid boxes would be bundled with some of True Corp’s products and services. However, he declined to give details. TrueVisions currently has around 2.7 million subscribers.
This week the NBTC decided to allow its vouchers to be used towards the purchase of hybrid boxes. The decision will give some viewers access to terrestrial digital channels in areas currently only accessible to satellite TV networks that also carry digital programmes.
The NBTC has also extended the expiry dates of its vouchers by two months. It started the distribution in October last year, with the first lot originally set to expire on May 31.
Of the 8.3 million vouchers distributed, 4.1 million have been redeemed to purchase digital terrestrial TV set-top boxes.
