Margaret Thatcher’s catch-phrase “The lady is not for turning”, summed her up. She made her mind up on what was right or wrong, and the British workers and even the European Union and the rest of the world had to live with it.
As a manager in a UK company in the 1970s, I was obliged to join a management union. The company board spoke to but ignored the workers’ union, which was an enlightened organisation, and just ignored the management union altogether. This situation got worse when Thatcher started her war of attrition. John Arnone will not listen to a British view that will account for his ignorance on the matter.
As for greedy unions in the USA, how else would they exist in a greedy capitalist society without any concerns on social issues? As for the Falklands, negotiations were close to an agreement between Argentina and the UK before Thatcher changed everybody’s mind for them. A war crime is a crime in any event. In the Falklands War, the US was very clearly not on Thatcher’s side. As for Puerto Rico, American imperialism would have taken the front seat.
“All of Britain” did not turn on the Queen regarding Diana. I have heard more eulogies from foreigners concerning Diana than any Brits. “All of Britain” will not turn against the Queen because of her tolerance for Margaret Thatcher, now she is gone. What if Prince Andrew had been killed in the Falklands fiasco?
