Myanmar's education system is about to undergo a radical modernisation, according to the nation's vice president.

Speaking at a forum on education reform held in the capital on Wednesday, Vice-President Sai Mauk Kham said that the government is now drawing a draft national education bill to implement reform policies.
“The upgrading of the nation depends on its education development, and so, education is the basic fundamental of the nation and its people. That’s why our government is now implementing the education reform process to upgrade education standards and quality,” said Sai Mayuk Kham.
He also called for training teachers to develop the standard of education, as well as reforming policies and laws to help develop education in ethnic areas.
During the forum attendees discussed increasing school enrolment rates, providing free education for primary and middle schools, capacity building for teachers, teacher training courses and drafting a National Education Bill.
