Other major treatments are for bone, nerve and joint disorders and diseases, they said, adding that about 50 per cent of these are knee transplants.
“It is mostly cancer patients going there,” an official at Sai Dhabi Hospital in Malaysia said, adding that knee-joint transplants were the second most frequent operation.
The official said the number of Myanmar nationals seeking treatment at the hospital was increasing every year, and that some were arriving for monthly check-ups.
Getting treatment in Malaysia is increasing annually due to better transportation, the official said. More patients are travelling independently rather than with the assistance of agencies, she said, adding that the patients ranged from children to the elderly.
