“I welcome the arrival of the international brand Hilton Hotel to Myanmar. Now, international hotels like the Kempinski Hotel and Royal Park Hotel have been opened in Nay Pyi Taw,” Minister of Hotels and Tourism Htay Aung said during the hotel’s opening ceremony.
The Hilton Nay Pyi Taw is located on 100 acres of land, with an investment of more than US$47 million.
“We plan to open five Hilton hotels – in Bagan, Inle, Mandalay, Ngapali, and Nay Pyi Taw. All the investment is made by us, so it is a locally owned hotel. Hilton provide us the management and the rating,” said Than Htut, director of Eden Group.
Eden Group and Hilton Group also plan to open Hilton Ngapali Beach Resort this year.
“We expect to open the rest of the hotels within two or three years,” said Than Htut.
The property is the first of five hotels the Hilton Hotels and Resorts group plans to manage in Myanmar, under the agreement signed on June 11 with Eden Group, a Myanmar business conglomerate founded by Chit Khine.
Hilton will begin managing an Eden properties in Nay Pyi Taw, the capital, and another in Ngapali, a popular beach resort on the western coast.
Later it will manage hotels in Bagan, Mandalay and Inle Lake, the country’s main tourist destinations.
"The introduction of five Hilton properties to the key destinations of Nay Pyi Taw, Ngapali, Bagan, Mandalay and Inle Lake marks our commitment to Myanmar," said Andrew Clough, senior vice president of development of Middle East and Asia Pacific for Hilton Worldwide.
The Hilton Nay Pyi Taw features 201 rooms and employs 300 personnel. The hotel has been opened in time for the 25th Asean Summit and the East Asia Summit, which will be held next month. US President Barack Obama will visit Southeast Asia to attend the regional meetings and also the Asean Summit.
“I’ve heard that rooms have been requested at the Hilton Hotel and the Kempinski Hotel for US officials to stay, but I can’t confirm it,” he added.
