State-owned Myanmar Airways will change its name to 'Myanmar National Airlines' and provide local flights and new services starting from December 15. A launch ceremony was held for Myanmar National Airlines on December 10.

The rebranding is intended to corporatise the state-owned Myanmar Airways’s operating processes, which were previously set by the government.
Myanmar National Airlines’s local flights and new services will start on December 15 and be based on international standards.
“As an airline that has been operating for 66 years, I am glad about this great change. Myanmar National Airlines, using modernised methods, has a big chance to transform travellers’ flight experience,” said Than Tun, managing director of Myanmar National Airlines.
Myanmar National Airlines will rent ten new Boeing aircrafts from US-based GE Capital Aviation Services and start regular flights to foreign countries.
GE Capital Aviation Services also offered to run Myanmar Airways, so Myanmar Airways drew up its Boeing Project and submitted it to state the officials. With the permission of the government, the project was completed.
According to the contract, GE Capital Aviation Services will rent six new Boeing 737-800 aircrafts and four new Boeing 737 8MAX model aircrafts to Myanmar National Airlines from June 2015 until 2020.
Myanmar Airways is the only state-owned airline in Myanmar. It began its services in September 1948.
