Ninety five per cent of Myanmar people do not believe Myanmar has full-fledged democracy, according to the 2015 Myanmar Asian Barometer Survey (ABS).

The survey was jointly conducted by the Yangon School of Political Science and Asian Barometer Survey, an organisation based in Taiwan. It surveyed 1,620 people across Myanmar and the result was unveiled in Yangon on August 24.
The survey said 74 per cent of people questioned said they support democratic governance, and 26 per cent said they oppose it, which is similar to findings found in the Philippines, Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand.
Myat Thu, the president of the Yangon School of Political Science, said the number of democracy supporters in Myanmar is not lower than that of other countries.
Myat Thu also said Myanmar’s population includes the greatest proportion of people opposed to dictatorship among the countries surveyed.
