And with floodwaters causing misery, a little healing certainly wouldn’t come amiss.
That’s why, musicians and artists are putting on charity concerts and art events that promise to entertain as well as raise funds to help flood victims. Here’s a look at some of the efforts:
_ Every time there’s a disaster in Thailand, singer, jet-ski champion and activist Jetrin “Jay” Wattanasin is there to lend a helping hand. Since the floods hit Lop Buri two months ago, he and his jet-ski teams have been present. On Twitter, @jjetrin sends updates until late at night to his more than 142,000 followers.
Jay’s designed a T-shirt, which he’s selling to raise funds for flood relief. The 1,000 limited-edition shirts are black with a white logo showing a clenched fist and a slogan that reads “Flood Fight”. They cost Bt500. Proceeds will go to providing boats and jet-skis to help those in need. They’re available at Facebook/jjetrin.
_ As part of the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre’s “Let’s Panic” exhibition of practical designs for flood relief, there’s the “Art for Help” event today from 10 to 9.
Lemon Soup, Jui Juis, Monotone, 4 Min Museum, Greasy Cafe, Rose Sirinthip and Jeab Wattana will play music, Tul of Apartment Khunpa will read poetry, Ananda Everingham will exhibit photos and publishers Oom, Happening, Fullstop and Openbooks will sell books. Designers will conduct workshops on making life jackets from recycled products and art therapists and artists will conduct art therapy workshops.

_ This afternoon starting at 3, Indy in Town hosts a free concert to fund flood relief at Park@Siam near Chulalongkorn Book Centre in Siam Square. Masscotte Entertainment’s artists including Peace, Jetman, Kanom Thai, Maratree, Um Indigo are providing the music.
_ Musicians and bicyclists from the Telebike team will ride from Siam Square to Khao San Road to raise funds. They’ll also collect donated items along the route. Check call (081) 637 1415, (083) 920 7230.
_ Sony Music and Xtreme Plus artists will perform in the Flood Fighter Charity Concert at the Ratchaprasong Urban Space opposite CentralWorld tomorrow from 3 to 9. Acts include Tor Saksit, Scrubb, Singular, Slot Machine, Jui Juis, Armchair, Better Weather and Q of Flure. There will also be a celebrity auction, with proceeds going to Channel 3’s flood-relief fund.
_ Also tomorrow, hard-rock bands Dezember, Sweet Mullet, Brand New Sunset and others play a flood-relief benefit from noon to 8 at Hong Samut Pub on Lat Phrao Soi 122 (Soi Mahad Thai). Admission is Bt100. Call (085) 254 5345.
_ Singer Settha Sirachaya with his wife Aranya Namwong and daughter Puttida celebrate his 67th birthday with a charity concert at Chalermkrung Theatre on November 6. He’ll be backed by the Ton Seang Orchestra conducted by Pathai Vichitvathakarn and the Universe Ensemble with Chakkawan “Nueng” Saothongyutidham.
