By way of explanation, he wants them to know that he didn’t drive away from his boxing camp in Chacheongsao in a brand new BMW, as reported. His BMW is a used car.
Okay, there’s more to the story than that, and it isn’t pretty.
Buakaw apologised for his Houdini act but explained that he and his trainer Saichon Sothornpitak have severed ties with Pramuk Rojanatan’s boxing camp.
He’s been under Pramuk’s wing since he was nine years old and he’s grateful for all the benefit he’s received there, but nowadays the expectations are just too high. As well as being upset over a nagging injury, Buakaw said the fight schedule that Pramuk’s son Theerapat has arranged for him is unrealistic.
How unrealistic is it? According to an unofficial source, Buakaw has had 400 fights in 20 years. That works out to a match every 18 days. He said he wants some rest. No kidding!
So, as it stands, no femme fatale lured Buakaw into running away, this is not about money, and all of his scheduled fights overseas have been cancelled.
He hasn’t decided about a match set for Pattaya on April 17, and he’s not sure about his future in general, but of one thing he’s certain – he’ll “never return” to his old boxing camp.
No more sick news
Did you notice all the PhDs among the winning news hosts and newscasters at the Entertainment Reporters Association’s Mekhala TV Academy Awards?
Dr Arisara Kamthorncharoen from Channel 3, Dr Wit Sittivaekin at Channel 5 and Drs Rungthip Chotnapalai and Nattha Komolvadhin of Thai PBS made the event sound like a medical convention.
Two possible ramifications, depending on your cynicism level:
Thailand is now blessed with journalists who are smart enough to use smart phones.
