The call by both the Foundation for Consumers and the Confederation of Consumer Organisations against Grammy is unjustifiably damaging to Grammy.
Grammy, through its private effort, has secured broadcast rights in Thailand for Euro 2012. It was the duty of pay-TV operator True Visions to obtain a sub-licensing right from Grammy prior to the event. True’s subscribers understand their right to watch content in full on all free-TV channels, with no deliberate blackout by anyone.
Kaewsun Atibhodhi, an academic lawyer, is right that the National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission should be blamed as a lame duck for not resolving this issue prior to the games. As a True subscriber, my extra cost for this mishap is Bt1,590 for a Grammy box and to be counted as its additional subscriber. Could Kaewsan advise me whether I can claim back Bt1,590 from True after the end of Euro 2012. I am prepared to give Grammy’s box to True after the event in return.
