He fell through the Cabin cracks

Twitter users around the world were desperate on Wednesday to learn what was happening to British rock musician Pete Doherty.

He was “trending”, as they say. The interest in Thailand was mainly because the young man was here in his latest effort to kick a very old heroin habit.
Doherty checked into the Cabin, a Chiang Mai rehab resort, late last month. It claims that 96 per cent of its 300 “guests” so far have completed the programme. Doherty is in the 4 per cent that didn’t.
He was kicked out because he became unruly, the occasionally reliable British press reported. Diplomatic Cabin director Alastair Mordey said he’s not ready to be ruled (other than by drugs, he meant).
Some tweeple were worried about Pete. “The man has talent but is such a mess,” fretted Charlie Lunn. “He’ll just end up like Amy Winehouse if he doesn’t clean up.”
Others made jokes about a story that’s gone on too long already. “Bet he tried to give heroin to a tiger,” Mitch Kent chuckled.

High anxiety
Apasiri “Aum” Nitipon says her first experience acting in a foreign film was interesting and she’ll consider more such projects in the future. She plays Mario Maurer’s mother in “Suddenly It’s Magic”, a Filipino flick. Apparently they have no actors of their own.
Aum had initially turned down the role, believing the script was overly dramatic and had too much English for her. “It was so stressful!”
Director Rory Quintos had to come to Thailand and explain what a great fit she was.
Having finished the film, Aum feels uplifted, so she was amenable when Rossukon Kongket asked her to co-star with him in a play he’s directing, “Kularb See Lued”.
But this role too seems “stressful” so far. “It’s far too tough for me and I’m having difficulty sleeping. But I have to fight the feeling.”
Aum has until September to get over it and get some sleep. That’s when the play hits the stage.
