You’d think that human civilisation must have covered all the bases by now when it comes to tea, having been enjoying it since 2737 BC. We're not done fiddling with it yet, though. Singapore's TWG Tea mixes in luxury fashion. You now have haute couture tea.
TWG Tea was established in Singapore by Moroccan-born tea specialist Taha Bouqdip, who has more than 20 years in the tea industry and businessman Manoj Murjan, who has lived in Singapore for several years. The tea label has rapidly gained recognition and established itself as the finest luxury tea brand in the world with uncompromising quality.
“I tell my tea suppliers that I cannot guarantee that I would buy leaves from them next harvesting season unless they could deliver the same quality,” says Bouqdip, who travels the world’s tea gardens. The label is highly acclaimed for its tea list, which features more than 1,000 different single estate fine harvests and exclusive blends. The Silver Moon Tea and Haute Couture Tea Collection are two finest examples of its reputation for tea blending.
Both tea infusions are now available in Bangkok at the Emporium Shopping Complex. In Thailand the tea salon is being managed by Yuthachai Charanachitta, who is the president of Italthai Hospitality and the grand opening takes place tomorrow.
TWG Tea gastronomy also offers a full menu of cakes, entremets, tarts, tea breads, scones, muffins, truffles, cookies, and macaroons, conceived and crafted by hand daily. Those with a sweet tooth can sneak bites of TWG Tea’s maitre chocolatier’s tea-infused chocolate bonbons and chocolate bars.
But in addition to the superiority and freshness of the chosen harvests, what make TWG Tea stand out is the founders’ passion for sharing their expertise and their determination to become a point of reference for tea lovers. “We’re always learning,” Bouqdip says. “People go to coffee shop to catch up or their mails or do something else. When they go to a tea salon, they take their time to discuss the tea product and enjoy the freshness.”
Order a pot of tea and you’ll receive a 77-page tea book along with the menu, offering a clear explanation about each tea, its geographic origin as well as the inspirations for creating each blend.
The packaging is also something not to be overlooked – it’s every bit as lavish and elegant as the French couture.
There are six TWG Tea Salon and Boutiques in Singapore, Japan, England, United States, Hong Kong, and Thailand. The brand’s products are available in 31 countries.
