Hankies ready for new 'Autumn'

One of the South Korean TV series that fuelled the K-culture phenomenon in Thailand was the weepy 2001 romantic drama “Autumn in My Heart”.

And now it’s going to be remade for TrueVisions’ Asian Series channel, with actor Ananda Everingham as producer.
Making it an even more promising project is the fact that handsome Jessadaporn “Tik” Pholdee will play the lead role that made Korean heartthrob Son Seung-heon a star. Tik is perfect for the sweet character Joon-suh, who falls in love with his sister Eun-Suh, who later turns out not to be his sister.
You can imagine the melodrama, and it starts as soon as Eun-Suh is born, when she and another baby girl are swapped, one going to a rich family and the other to a poor one. The error goes unnoticed until the girls are 14, when they’re finally returned to their real parents.
Then extremely good-looking guys start showing up, and evil leukaemia puts in an appearance.
Ananda still has to cast the other two main characters – Eun-Suh (originally played by Song Hye-kyo) and hunky Tae-Seok (formerly Won Bin). And the Thai cast has to be exceptional to transcend Thai viewers’ heartfelt memories of the Korean stars.
Ananda admits he asked his girlfriend Manasnan “Donut” Panlertwongskul if she’d like to tackle Song Hye-hyo’s legacy, but “she’s more interested in an evil role. Anyway, we decided to do a casting call for newcomers.”
It will be interesting to see how the True Asian Series fares with this one following the failure of its remake of “Coffee Prince”, directed by Songyos Sukmakanan. Songyos perhaps stuck a little too close to the original Korean script and it jarred culturally.
Ananda has picked indie filmmaker Sivaroj Kongsakul, who made the award-winning “Tee Rak” (“Eternity”), to direct the series.
Ananda is producing all three True Asian Series for the Rak Nee Chua Nij Niran project. Plans for the others haven’t yet been revealed, but keep an eye on the “TrueAsianSeriesAudition” Facebook page.
