Fans of LA-based pop-rockers Maroon 5 didn’t have to wait long for the band’s return visit, as the troupe were back in Bangkok for the third time in just three years last Monday, playing to a sold-out crowd at Impact Arena.
The concert kicked off with their recent hit “Payphone” from the latest CD “Overexposed” immediately had fans up on their feet and screaming. The dancey, electro-inspired pop vibe continued with “Makes Me Wonder”, “Sunday AM” and “If I Never” before the band brought energy levels down a notch with “Won’t Go Home Without You”, “The Man Who Never Lied”, “Wake Up Call”, “One More Night” and “Hands All Over”.
Though the past two albums have seen Maroon 5 gearing towards heavily synthesised and electronic-clad sounds, the band
offered a decent balance with some guitar-heavy and rocking tunes from their early works. Songs like “Misery” and “This Love” have proved to be among the band’s all-time favourites, and they were executed beautifully and gracefully onstage.
Those who underestimated the band for resorting to electronic sound as an easy option to create more hits should think again, as each of them is a prolific, talented musician with energetic showmanship.
The members reappeared on stage after the encore with “Stereo Hearts”, “She Will Be Loved”, “Daylight” and ended the show with a bang with “Moves Like Jagger”.
Maroon 5 had their Bangkok debut at the same venue back in 2009, during the promotion of their sophomore “It Won’t Be Soon Before Long”, and came back for the second time in April 2011. This time around their concert was sold out in two days and the band recently received a gold record for their success in Asia-Pacific. Their latest album, “Overexposed”, is currently ranked the number one selling album on iTune Thailand Store.
