She might have been forgiven for splurging on her birthday on August 22, but instead she split expenses with actor-friend Pakorn “Boy” Chatborirak, who was born on August 20. And not only that, their joint party was held at the Phayathai Orphanage, with members of both their fan clubs in attendance.
“This year we were able to raise Bt130,000 for the kids – we made 500 T-shirts and sold them all within 10 minutes,” Margie tells OK! magazine. She and Boy organised the food and sat down to eat with the fans and the orphans. They had a terrific seven hours together, all through the afternoon of the 19th.
“Both of us wanted to take photos with the fans and we did,” Margie says. “There were 500 of them and the queue was so long that, by the time we were finished, I was doing all kinds of faces. But I was very happy!” So it was a memorable way to turn 23, and right up there with her and Boy’s birthday last year, when they took their party to the Thailand Association for the Blind. Giving and sharing, she believes, has brought good things to her life.
When it comes to managing her finances, Margie is a disciplinarian while shopping. She might love designer products, but before she buys, she calculates the dent it would make in her annual income. “For example, if I earn Bt100 this month, I’ll only spend Bt5,” she says. (Of course you can add a few zeroes to make it more believable.) Margie invests as well, in gold, life insurance and high-interest deposit accounts. “I developed that habit a long time back.”

Can’t panda-bear it
How can fans of Lin Ping, the giant panda born in Thailand, not be missing her? She was flown off to Chengdu, China, on Saturday and will be there for at least a year, dating guy pandas.
Officials at the Chiang Mai Zoo knew there’d be some emotional damage with her departure, so they organised a countdown with farewell activities every day, starting on September 21. A Lanna-style su-kwan ceremony was even held to bless her and ensure a safe trip. True Visions broadcast Lin Ping’s actual departure aboard a THAI passenger jet live, the least it could do after years of hosting the 24-hour panda channel.
From the mement she was born, Lin Ping brought joy to Thai hearts, so her leaving is bound to have repercussions. If you’re feeling blue, how about keeping a “token” of Lin Ping in your pocket? Kbank’s idea of a keepsake is a Lin Ping debit card, which bears her photo. It will donate Bt100 to the Zoological Park Organisation for every application it receives before December 30, and the first 200 applicants get a Lin Ping teddy bear.
Soopsip strongly believes that, by the time you read this, the 200 have gone!
