Honesty, independence: what they really mean

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 03, 2013

The word "honest" as defined by Dictionary.com: _ Honourable in principles, intentions and actions; upright and fair; gained or obtained fairly: honest wealth.

And the word “independent”:
_ Not influenced or controlled by others in matters of opinion, conduct
_ Not influenced by the thought or action of others.
The recently appointed Attorney-General has said the position needs someone honest and independent who does not take sides. The new AG acquiesced to the previous AG’s withdrawal of the terrorism charge against Thaksin. The new AG has agreed to 1,000 charges including murder against Abhisit. I think his even-handedness needs a little attention.
The reason that the previous AG gave for withdrawing the charge was that Thaksin could not have influenced anything that happened in Thailand because he was abroad at the time. That resonated with Thaksin, who said you can give Bt500 to somebody but there’s no guarantee they’ll vote for you.
Perhaps great minds think alike.
