More than 2,000 runners of 35 nationalities are competing with over 100 taking part in the ultimate challenge – the 100km solo run. The 100km distance has been selected as a Qualifying Race for the world-renowned North Face Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc 2015 in France.
“It’s great to see so many people signed up to compete this year. This is only the third year of The North Face 100 Thailand and the number and quality of the competitors is top class,” said Chaiyut Srivikorn, President of Thai Outdoor Sport Co Ltd, exclusive distributor of The North Face in Thailand.
The number and quality of Thai participants is also very encouraging this year.
“Trail running has become a popular sport in Thailand. It requires more than just running ability to run along a trail route on different surfaces and in changing environments. We are very excited to see that more than half the participants taking part this year are Thai, and that 35 Thais are competing in the gruelling 100km distance,” added Khun Chaiyut.
Dubbed the 'Ultra Marathon', The North Face 100 Thailand includes a number of distances: 100km Solo, 100km Duo, 50km Solo, 25km Run, 10km Run, with age and sex categories, and offers a unique and adventurous trail running experience.
Last year’s 100km winner in the male category, Sanya Khanchai, is back to defend his title, and also on the startline are Thai National Team runners Boonthueng Srisang and Natthaya Thanaronnawat together with The North Face-sponsored Champion System Adventure Team lead by Saman Gunan and Jantaraboon Kiangchai-Paiphana.
The route starts in Amphoe Pakchong, near Khao Yai National Park with the start/ finish at Simalin, and goes through fruit plantations and past Thai temples in the surrounds of Khao Yai National Park.
