Ferguson best-seller to hit Terminal 21

After becoming the fastest-selling work of non-fiction on record at bookstores around the globe, the Thai-language version of "Alex Ferguson: My Autobiography" is set for an official launch at Terminal 21 next week.

Nation International Edutainment PCL, a subsidiary of the Nation Multimedia Group, will launch the book, which has been translated into 28 languages so far, at an event hosted by well-known TV hosts Kanok Ratwongsakul and Teera Tanyapaibul at the shopping mall near Asoke junction on March 3.

At the event, fans can also meet NMG chairman Suthichai Yoon, along with diehard Manchester United fan and TV host Nantakwang Sirisoontorn, a member of the book’s translation team.
Nantakwang said the book about the life of former United manager Ferguson was an easy read for everyone, not necessarily just football fans.
“The book is really easier to read for everyone than other books about football. But, there’re some words that have a different meaning in a football context. Another challenge in translating the book was to find the appropriate Thai word that would make it easy to read. Moreover, if you don’t have knowledge about football, you could mistranslate it by 30 per cent, because most of the incidents in the book occurred on the pitch,” Nantakwang said.
Nantakwang stressed that “Alex Ferguson: My Autobiography” was more than just a sports book in general.
“The book hit the shelves in the country on February 17. It’s very pleasing that it rose to the top of the best-seller list in almost every bookstore. But, what made me very happy was that some Liverpool and Chelsea fans tweeted that they have already read half of the book. It showed that you needn’t necessarily be a United fan to read the book.
“The first day I went to sign autographs for fans at Siam Discovery, 60 per cent of them were women, while there were six doctors queuing up. This book is going to outsell all other sports books. It’s predicted that some eight million copies of the book would be sold around the world. No such thing happened with a sports book before,” he said.
