The New York fashion house takes a tour of swank European resorts

Clothing brand Kate Spade New York swept Bangkok fashion followers off to Italy’s isle of Capri recently with a spring collection previewed at the Garret Secret Bistro Bar.
The line is all about “Places to Go and People to See” on a yearlong adventure that, between February and April alone, travels to Paris, Capri and Monaco. Nichabul Nakasai, Siraprapa Jirapan, Prachayamon Buranasiri, Pakjira Tachaungkoon, Pimmara Charoenpakdee and other well-known well-dressed ladies were on hand for the journey.
The outfits making up “February – Paris” were cleverly dubbed “nouveau or never”, romantic in pink or darker for a midnight rendezvous but always sophisticated and feminine.
Vision of the opera and Catherine Deneuve in her 1960s heyday and houndstooth prints and stripes evoked Parisian splendour amid matching separates like cropped tops matched with smart but casual black trousers.
“March – Carpi” is “ciao-ciao” style, sunny afternoons spent learning the ropes of island life. The allure is found at the beach, under a beautifully patterned parasol. Patterns rendered in yellow lemons adorn shirts and a matching cocktail dress and jacket, with colourful embroidery around the neck.
“April – Monaco” puts you in the driver’s seat of a fast car in the Grand Prix or watching the wheel at the casino, ogling super yachts and supermodels. By day, the chequered flag and vintage road signs pattern your clothes. By night, you’re all dressed up to roll the dice and always come up gold. Eye-catching bags finish the look grandly.
For summer Kate Spade flies off to Rio de Janeiro, Havana and Buenos Aires for another line of clothes that has yet to be revealed, but the promise is that there will be many surprises. Imagine the Kate Spade girls on the beach at Ipanema with Sugarloaf Mountain as a backdrop.
In the Cuban capital, the gaze is first drawn to the faded grandeur of the architecture as seen from a vintage convertible. As the rhythm of music and the vibrancy of street life take over, we retire our sun hats and explore the winding streets, listening to late-night concerts in social clubs peppered with cigar smoke and the sounds of the cha-cha till the sun rises.
Buenos Aires says hello to the little red dress because we’re in the mood to tango. Romance is in the air as piano music tinkles down to the street from a top-floor dance studio. Women dressed in sharply tailored wiggle dresses, hair swept into a bun, show off their elegant form.
