Best-selling self-help author Dhitinart “Kru Oi” Napattalung on Sunday raised money for soldiers serving in the southernmost provinces and victims of the violence there with a talk show staged at Siam Paragon.
“Happiness Compass Super Talk 2” was a follow-up to a successful fund-raiser in Hua Hin. Kru Oi, whose widely acclaimed “Life Compass” book series has sold more than 1.5 million copies around the world, provides a guide to tapping the subconscious for the inspiration needed to unlock your potential to succeed in life. She uses the pen name Ddnart outside Thailand.
The stage talks were part of a series of events commemorating the book series’ 10th anniversary. “Life Compass Super Talk”, held last year, drew more than 5,000 listeners, with rock star Atiwara “Toon Bodyslam” Kongmalai on hand to add his own colourful flourishes to the proceedings.
At a press conference promoting the first of the 2014 talks in Hua Hin, Kru Oi sat next to Pongsak Chantaprom, a soldier who’d experienced a bomb attack first-hand in the South, and Wanlapa Pinchai, who lost both a child and her ability to walk in another violent incident. The guests shared their experiences and explained how Kru Oi’s books had helped them overcome their grief and trauma.
Drawing on experiences in her own life, Kru Oi demonstrates her gift for showing how life’s challenges can be overcome with the help of the Buddhist dharma, often paving the way to unexpected success. The Life Compass books are guides to that path to a happier life.
The first title in the series sold more than a million copies in the first year after being translated into English under the title “The Compass of Now”. It’s been credited with establishing “an outstanding platform for Thai literacy on a global scale”.
The original book is now available in five languages and is also being translated into Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Italian, French, Spanish, Bahasa Indonesia, Vietnamese and Khmer, thus fostering inspiration for people around the planet.
Last year the Thai Association for International Understanding named Kru Oi Person of the Year for promoting foreign relations, having had such a considerable impact in the literary world.
She enjoys travelling to different countries so she can study “the science of the state of mind” and has been travelling a lot lately, giving interviews to foreign media. The US-based Huffingon Post recently ran an interview with her under the headline “From despair to inspiring millions: Meeting Thailand’s best-selling author and self-help guru Ddnard”.
