Buakaw claims World Muaythai crown

Muay Thai superstar Buakaw Banchamek beat Djime Coulibaly of France by a unanimous decision to capture the World Muaythai Council Championship at the Monte Carlo Fighting Masters in Monaco late Saturday night.

The 31-year-old junior middleweight (69kg), who has 208 wins including 54 KOs, 21 losses and 12 draws in his career, was superb in the five rounds in front of a large crowd at the Louis II Stadium, which included Prince Albert II of Monaco.
With the convincing win over Coulibaly, last year’s WMC and the FIBA world champion, Buakaw captured not only the WMC crown but also the prestigious HSH the Sovereign Prince Cup. 
The Thai fighter received the prizes from Prince Albert II.
The Monte Carlo Fighting Masters featured seven fights. Besides Buakaw, three other Thai fighters - Pakorn Sakyothin in the 61.5kg class, Beurneung Topkingboxing in the 72kg division and Ekkarat KBA in the 63kg event – took part in the competition.
