Pruchya and Nuttanon get the better of Ratiwatanas

Pruchya Isarow redeemed an earlier loss in the singles by teaming up with Nuttanon Kadchapanan to stun top seeds Sonchat and Sanchai Ratiwatana in the men's doubles quarter-finals of the US$50,000 Chang-SAT Bangkok Open yesterday afternoon.

The Thai No 2, who was eliminated in the singles second round by rising British star Kyle Edmund 6-2 6-4, needed four match points before helping clinch the shock win over his more experienced national team-mates 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 12-10 after one hour and 43 minutes.
Pruchya and Nuttanon won through to their first Challenger semi-final as a pairing, where they will take on India’s Divij Sharan and Japan’s Yasutaka Uchiyama, who trounced Chaleechan Tanasugarn and Warot Udomsuk 6-0 6-1.
In singles second round action, Australia’s Jordan Thompson staged the biggest upset of the tournament so far by crushing compatriot and second seed James Duckwoord 6-2 6-4. Huang Liang-chi of Taiwan needed three sets to beat Toshihide Matsui 7-6 (8-6) 4-6 6-3.
Hyeon Chung of South Korea advanced to the quarter-finals without hitting a ball after his opponent Nicolas Meister of Australia retired with a back injury.
