And she’s teamed up again with director Thanakorn Pongsuwan – they both made their cinema debuts with “Fake Kohoke Thung Pe” (“Fake”) in 2003.
Thanakorn has been on a long hiatus since his last offering, 2009’s “Ta Chon” (“Fireball”). This time he’s backed by the new studio Transformation Film, which is counting on better numbers for “Single Lady” than it got with its first project, Yuthlert Sippapak’s” Tukkae Rak Pang Mak” (“Chiang Khan Story”), a bomb at the box office despite plenty of good reviews.
Aum’s fans heard about “Single Lady” months ago when it still carried the working title “Only You”, but details had been so few and far between that they were getting testy online. What was the big secret? “A movie with a superstar like Aum would benefit from promotion throughout the production process,” one of her devotees pointed out at Pantip.com.
“Many people are wondering about the movie I’ve been working on,” Thanakorn says with considerable understatement. “Shooting is now done and we’re in post-production, so we’ve finally got an official title and can reveal some details.”
Topmost detail: “Single Lady” is due to hit theatres on October 23.
Thanakorn has an “in” at Transformation because he and its chief executive, Sa-nga Chatcharungraung, both worked at Film Bangkok Co over a decade ago. And Aum has an “in” with at least one of her co-stars. She and Arak “Pe” Amornsupasiri did the TV comedy series “Jaew Jai Rai Kab Khunchai Tevada”.
“Only You” is about a woman named Brite (that would be Aum) who goes back to try and fix the lousy relationships she had with a slew of guys. Pe plays one of them, and comedian Jaroenpron “Kotee Aramboy” Ornlamai, Navin “Tar” Yaovaponkun, Ravit Therdwong, Phaopon “Tar Barbie” Dhephasdin Na Ayutthaya and DJ Ekachai “Ekkie” Uasangkomset might or might not play the rest.
Hopelessly in love
Teen idols just can’t have girlfriends or wives, and that’s all there is to it. Their fans don’t want them paired off with anyone because then their own hopes of becoming the Chosen One are dashed. This is Pop Culture 101. Didn’t anyone explain this to Nichkhun Horvejkul, the Thai member of the South Korean boy band 2PM?
Fresh from ticking people off by refusing to take the Ice Bucket Challenge because he believes in conserving water, Nichkhun’s been too forthcoming about dating Tiffany of Girls’ Generation. Even though he said they don’t get to see easy other that often due to their busy work schedules, he got all moony on Monday during his most recent “Crazy Fan Talk” on Twitter. A fan asked Nichkhun what “pink” means to him, and he replied, “The most beautiful colour.” It was immediately evident that he was talking about Tiffany again, because that’s her trademark colour.
Fans got upset, not so much that he won’t shut up about her, but because he was going to get in trouble with the “haters”. There might be more haters after Nichkhun picks a cute Thai “co-star” for his upcoming TV commercial for the Mirage, the Mitsubishi eco-car he’s pitching.
Meanwhile, he says, he’s busy as ever working in China on the series “One and a Half Summers”. And as soon as it can be arranged, he says, “I’ll be in a Thai movie project as the guest actor.”
