CREATED FOR MEN who want straightforward skincare products packed with natural ingredients, the UK’s popular grooming brand Bulldog skincare has now arrived in Thailand.
Founder Simon Duffy tells XP that he came up with the brand because he wanted to offer naturally formulated skincare products especially designed for men fed up with only finding masculine versions of famous female skincare brands.
“What men want is straightforward: they want to shave, shower, wash, moisturise and deodorise. They don’t want or need any hassle,” says Duffy of his brand, which has been on the market since 2006 and has proved so popular that it is now available in 13 countries and at 14,000 stores worldwide. In Thailand, it’s stocked by Boots.
Duffy is well aware that the bulldog may not be nature’s prettiest beast, but points out that he’s loyal and trustworthy as well as man’s best friend. The skincare line is body friendly and does not contain such chemicals as parabens, sodium lauryl sulfate, artificial colours or synthetic fragrances. Instead all Bulldog products are loaded with essential oils and other natural ingredients to deliver superb skincare results. The line, which is also guaranteed free from any animal products and is never tested on animals, relies on plant extract. The original moisturiser, for example, contains green tea, green algae, konjac mannan and vitamin E.
“Men have much oilier skin than women and this makes it much more prone to shininess, enlarged pores, acne and other skin imperfections. In addition, men’s skin is more acidic, with an average pH of 4.5. This means that it can react very differently to products,” Duffy says.
“So why do most of these skincare products look and feel the same? Bulldog products have been specifically designed and formulated by men for men. We don’t even have a good-looking man on the label. We make a lifestyle product. Every man wants to have nice clean, healthy complexion. About 30 per cent of men now use moisturiser every day and the number is increasing every year,” he says.
“Moisturisers are a great way of treating dry skin quickly. Normally up to 15 per cent of the stratum corneum consists of water. When the moisture content falls below 10 per cent the skin appears dry and flaky; further drying can lead to reduced flexibility and cracking. Skin cells are constantly being renewed and the dead cells shed. The epidermis contains natural enzymes that are important for getting rid of old skin cells. These enzymes need moisture to work properly,” Duffy adds.
Bulldog Skincare for Men Anti-Ageing Moisturiser is packed with five essential oils, millet seed and oak apple tannins and claims to help deliver visibly younger looking skin in four weeks. The texture is not oily and it is very light and easy to absorb.
A favourite of many grooming magazines in both the US and the UK, Bulldog is considered a must for every man’s bathroom routine.
“It has amazing natural ingredients, no complicated language, no nonsense and talks to men in the same way that men talk to each other,” Duffy concludes.
