NOW IN ITS sixth year, the national Milo Futsal Champion tournament is back to give Thai youngsters another chance to show off their prowess, and this year’s edition is bigger than ever thanks to Nestle (Thai), which makes the Milo drink and whole-grain breakfast cereal, and the Education Ministry’s Department of Physical Education and Office of the Basic Education Commission.
The organisers aim to promote physical activity among kids and improve their abilities in futsal, while at the same time encouraging them to eat a healthy breakfast.
Registration is open until July 13, nationwide. Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn has donated the trophy that will be presented to the winning team in the 13-to-15-year-old category.
On hand for the tournament’s recent official kick-off at CentralWorld were Nestle Indochina chief executive Audrey Liow, Nestle (Thai) business executive manager Chaiyong Sakulborrirug and fellow executives David Carter, Cruawan Varunpaichit and Eugene Chan. They were joined by Chutchai Wongbangpo of the Department of Physical Education and Napa Pannoi of the Office of the Basic Education Commission.
A host of stars and celebrities were there too, including sports guru Dr Charnwit Polcheewin and football heroes past and present Piyapong “The Tuk” Pue-on, Teeratep “Leesaw” Winothai, Sukollawat “Weir” Kanaros and Hun “The Star” Isariya Patharamanop.
“Playing sports allows children to learn about socialising,” said Charnwit, who’s popularly known as “Coach Rung”.
“The moment you make a mistake while playing, you go through a range of emotions – you cry, you feel sad, you forgive and you forget. Sport can be a great teacher.”
