The local squad easily lost the two opening rubbers with SEA Games champion Warit Sornbutnark going down to Zhang Ze 1-6 0-6 0-6 in just 68 minutes and Pruchya Isarow to Wu Di 6-7 (6-8) 2-6 2-6 in one hour and 58 minutes.
It was a disappointing but predicted outcome for Thai captain Paradorn Srichaphan who admitted that his side was overshadowed by the far more superior team.
“I kept my fingers crossed that we might have won a point from Pruchya but in the end China is too tough for us. Warit may lose way too easy but he was not really ready as he was just called to replace Kittipong Wachiramanowong (who just has ankle injury on Monday)a few days ago,” said the skipper Paradorn.
“Chinese players have more experience and better rankings than those of our players. If Pruchya had won the first set, he would still have been the underdog as this was the best of five set match. Wu really put him under pressure on the return of serves and that’s why we saw many double faults from him today,” said Paradorn.
