Dana Rosario’s cynical Sinophobic propagandising serves no one and ignores reality. I am no China apologist, but it’s a bit cheeky to pontificate about China’s alleged lack of respect, as Rosario emphatically does. Furthermore, the accusation against Beijing of “audacity” in building military facilities on South China Sea atolls is groundless in light of the immutable truths in the region.
I would suggest this writer actually does research and takes a look at the number of US bases placed in a containing configuration in relatively close proximity to the Chinese coastline – a clear provocation. In round figures, this approaches 400 military installations. What, one wonders, is China supposed to do? Let the US and its regional allies redraw the security imperatives in the South China Sea on their terms? I doubt it.
Imagine the installation of Chinese military bases off the coast of California and US eastern seaboard and in the Caribbean. It would amount to a clear breach of the Monroe Doctrine, and one may be assured that Washington would not tolerate any such actions. Think about it.
