An elephant in town

One of the most popular festival choices of 2017 Singapore-Thailand film “Pop Aye” has been shown in Bangkok a few times over the last few months and not only opened the recent Singapore Film Festival but is now on official release at SF Cinemas nationwide.

The opening of this road movie upcountry saw the cast led by Thaneth Warakulnukroh and veteran Isaan actor and mor lum singer Noppadon Duangporn travel up to Surin. 
“I watched the film here for the first time. It’s fun and I’m sure you’ll enjoy watching the story of the relationship between an elephant lover and the elephant himself,” Noppadon told fans.
 “Pop Aye” marks a return to the cinema for the actor, who earlier appeared in “15 Kam Duan 11” (“Mekong Full Moon Party”) and “Khru Bannok” in 1978.
Directed by Kirsten Tan, it tells the story of an architect who’s tired of life and his chance encounter on a Bangkok street with the elephant he raised as a boy. He decides to take the elephant back to Loei where they grew up together. Penpak Sirikul also stars.
“Pop Aye” won the Special Jury Award for Screenwriting at 2017 Sundance Film Festival, and has since been screened at various film festivals. 
It’s now showing at SF World Cinema, SF The Mall Bang Kapi, SF Big C Bang Phli, SF Cinema at Khon Kaen, Ubon Ratchathani, Udon Thani, Mahasarakham, Surin, Buri Ram and SFX Maya Chiang Mai.
