Trump’s cabinet full of ‘swamp-like creatures’

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 18, 2017

Donald Trump campaigned on the pledge to “drain the swamp”, yet it seems that many of his appointments are swamp creatures. That is aside from the fact that Trump is the first US president not to remove the appearance of impropriety and conflict, financial or otherwise, from his administration.

Let’s start with Mr Pudzer, nominee for Secretary of Labour. Here’s a man whose company – the parent company of Carl’s Jr (it makes hamburgers but advertises in a sexually charged way) – has a history of labour code violations second to none. Okay, maybe not second, but very close. And he is opposed to an increase in the minimum wage, though he makes between $4 to $10 million per year.
Obama’s last labour secretary was a Harvard Law grad and experienced in the proper use of labour laws.
Another Trump secretary
pick is Rick Perry, a former governor of Texas (so he’s an oilman), who has been named secretary of the Department of Energy, a department that Mr Perry wanted to abolish. It controls the nukes.
So, maybe Obama’s choices were better – a Nobel prize winner in physics and a renowned nuclear physicist.
Not to stretch this out too much, but let’s look at the Education secretary just approved by the VP casting the vote to break a tie. In her first tweet as education secretary, Ms Devos made a spelling mistake, and so did the “correction” four hours later.
I know spelling is a lost art, what with word processing having a spell-check function, but she has zero experience in public education.
One big problem the US has is a deteriorating education system. This partly because of cutbacks in funding and a lack of focus by parents, including not helping with their children’s homework, much less even making sure it’s being done.
